Founder

Andrew is a data scientist, software engineer and entrepreneur. He founded Canvas in 2015, building on his experience in healthcare and applied data science. He holds a BS in Mathematical Statistics and Business Administration from SFSU and an MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

### Adam Farren
Chief Executive Officer

Adam leads the team at Canvas. He has over 15 years of startup and healthcare experience and previously served as a go-to-market leader and Chief Growth Officer at companies in healthcare, education, media and financial technology. He holds a BA from Princeton and an MBA from Haas Business School at UC Berkeley.

### JP Patil
Chief Product Officer

JP leads Product and Customer Experience at Canvas. He has held various roles in product leadership, product management, and strategy at Included Health, Grand Rounds, tenXer, Digite, and AraVasc. JP holds an MBA from USC Marshall School of Business and a BS in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology from UC San Diego.

Chief Revenue Officer

Greg leads the Revenue team at Canvas. He has over 10 years of EMR sales experience and previously helped build and lead the sales team at Elation Health. He holds a BA from Cornell and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.

### August 17, 2015 - Andrew Hines starts Canvas
After watching his wife Annalies, a family nurse practitioner, grapple with bad medical software, Andrew Hines founded Canvas to build a customizable and extensible EMR.

### January 15, 2018 - First clinic on Canvas
Andrew and founding engineer Beau Gunderson ship the first platform version of Canvas for small ambulatory clinics.

### October 3, 2021 - Developer tools first launched
Canvas launches its first set of tools for developers to build and manage their Canvas infrastructure, including the programmable EMR, API, and SDK.

### January 1, 2022 - ONC certification achieved
Canvas achieves certification by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), enabling customers to meet meaningful use requirements.

### November 13, 2022 - JP Patil joins
Canvas adds industry veteran JP Patil as Chief Product Officer after seven years in product leadership at Included Health.

### April 1, 2023 - Adam Farren joins
Adam joins Canvas as President and Chief Operating Officer after fifteen years in growth leadership in healthcare and technology.

### February 9, 2024 - Open source patient app ships
Canvas completed its first major open source initiative, enabling customers to easily integrate patient-side scheduling, messaging, payments, and medical records.

### May 30, 2024 - Canvas releases Plugins and the new SDK
Canvas provides its next iteration of tools to customize and automate workflows across scheduling, charting, billing, and more.

### September 5, 2024 - Adam Farren appointed CEO
Adam becomes the company's second chief executive, succeeding Andrew.

### February 1, 2025 - Greg Miller joins
Greg joins Canvas after nine years in a sales leadership role at Elation Health.

### March 17, 2025 - Hyperscribe released
Canvas releases its first AI product, a clinical co-pilot with comprehensive context.

### November 23, 2025 - Canvas Plugin Assistant goes live
CPA, powered by Claude Code, is an AI assisted coding agent for Canvas.

### February 4, 2026 - Canvas Platform wins Best in KLAS
Announced as the winner of the Ambulatory Specialty EMR category.
